Local Government Amalgamations 2008
The local government amalgamation process in Queensland in 2008 and the concurrent changes to water institutional arrangements in South East Queensland saw significant change to the 103 Shire, 17 City, 17 Island, 15 Aboriginal and 3 City Council Service Providers then providing water and waste water services to Queensland's communities. Following amalgamations there were 73 local government Service Providers though for the 10 new SEQ local governments water arrangements were soon to be restrcutured (see SEQ Institutional Changes).
During the amalgamations process, the Queensland Water Directorate supported members with initiatives including:
