The Partnership was established on 1 July 2011 to address critical skills needs facing the urban water industry in Queensland.  It extends the work undertaken through the Urban Water Skills Formation Strategy (SFS) which commenced in late 2009, supported by the Queensland Department of Education and Training and hosted by qldwater.

The Partnership is governed by an industry leaders group made up of CEOs and other senior managers from:
  • Unitywater, Allconnex Water, Queensland Urban Utilities, Cairns Water, Murweh Shire Council, and Wide Bay Water Corporation representing local government-owned utilities;
  • Seqwater, Sunwater, and the South East Queensland Water Grid Manager representing state government-owned utilities;
  • The Department of Environment and Resource Management, Skills Queensland, Local Government Association of Queensland and Australian Workers' Union; and
  • The Queensland Water Directorate (qldwater)
