qldwater has distributed the updated 2008 edition of the Asbestos Pipe Cutting Guidelines to our members. Members should note that these guidelines replace the AC Guidelines first published and distributed to our members in April 2005. This update is part of the qldwater ongoing quality assurance process for our publications. All previous copies of the manual should be destroyed. With hundreds of thousands of kilometres of asbestos cement pipe throughout Queensland, the industry needs clear guidance on how it should pursue issues such as AC pipe renewals and pipe cracking technology, abandoning AC pipes and repair techniques as well as maintaining a record of the existing AC pipe network for use by third parties. These Guidelines have been developed to align and comply with current relevant National and Queensland legislation and codes of practice. qldwater strongly urges Local Authorities to develop and implement practices to address risks associated with the cutting, handling and disposal of asbestos cement pipes. A PDF copy of the guidelines is available for download from our website under "Downloads/Templates and Guidelines" or by clicking here. Members will need to logged in to access this link. |

All qldwater member councils will have now received their free copy of the new Water Treatment Plant Operations and Maintenance Manual which was developed at the request of our members. The WTP Manual is provided as a comprehensive manual template that Water Service Providers can modify to match their individual requirements. This manual has been extensively reviewed and is provided in an electronic form so that it can be modified for each Water Treatment Plant as required. This manual was developed cooperatively with the NSW Water Directorate providing significant savings for the members of each of the Directorates. Information is provided for both NSW and Queensland and differences between the states are clearly coded. . With the widespread introduction of fluoridation and soon to be introduced requirements for Drinking Water Quality monitoring, this manual provides timely information that will be essential to ongoing management of WTPs across the State. This chapter on Fluoridation represents the best information on the Queensland Code and fluoridation operations nationally. Once the States fluoridation program is developed and the Queensland Code is modified, a more comprehensive manual will be developed to replace the chapter and will be provided free of charge to qldwater members. |
