Date: 31-Jul-2014

Congratulations to Mackay Regional Council who made it through to the Orica Australia Best of the Best Queensland Water Taste Test finals with water from its Nebo Road WaterTreatment Plant selected as the best tasting tap water in the North Queensland region.

Mackay trumped water samples from Townsville City Council, Hinchinbrook Shire Council and last year’s winner - Whitsunday Regional Council at the North Queensland regional conference on Tuesday, 29 July 2014.

Council’s Water Committee Chair, Councillor Frank Gilbert said that Council is proud of the great work undertaken by Mackay’s water treatment operators in providing such a great quality product to their customers 24/7.

The water is collected at the Dumbleton Weir on the Pioneer River and treatment involves coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection before it journeys to Mackay homes and businesses.

Mackay Regional Council will be joining Rockhampton Regional Council, Toowoomba Regional Council and Bundaberg Regional Council at the taste test finals to be held at the Institute of Public Works Engineers Queensland State Conference from 8 – 10 October 2014.

Stuart Boyd, Manager Water Treatment, Water & Waste Services accepted the trophy on behalf of his team.
