Water Connections 2012

In 2012 the Water Connections Week headed back to North Queensland to visit some new councils and a couple that had been visited in previous years. Water Connections week ran from 30 April to 4 May and included a regional mini-conference on the first and last days as well as two regional finals for the Best of the Best Water Taste Test

2012 Itinerary

Day 1. Monday 30/4/2012 – Longreach – CQ West taste test and mini-conference.
Day 2. Tuesday 1/5/2012 – Croydon and Etheridge Water Connections Tour.
Day 3. Wednesday 2/5/2012 – Cook and Wujal Wujal Water Connections Tour.
Day 4. Thursday 3/5/2012 – Cassowary Coast and Burdekin Water Connections Tour.
Day 5. Friday 4/5/2012 – Whitsunday - NQ taste test and mini-conference.

This year representatives from DERM, Queensland Health, SEWPaC and DEEDI joined Rob Fearon, Dave Cameron, Michael Lever (along with Bruce Gardiner and Alex Ung from Cairns for the Wujal Wujal and Cooktown legs).

The week started with the Longreach conference and finished with Bowen, with trips to Croydon, Etheridge (Georgetown and Forsayth), Cooktown, Wujal Wujal, Innisfail and Ayr in between.

Michael Lever was able to offer a number of options in smaller areas to improve treatment processes and other technical and policy issues were able to be addressed.

The tour week remains a vitally important profile building exercise for qldwater and each of the government representatives gave extremely positive feedback.
