Demand Management Leaking Loos

Water leaking down the loo drains money from your pocket... get it fixed fast!

The issue

Leaking toilets can waste more than 60,000 litres of water per year!

What can you do?

While dripping taps are easy to detect, a leaking loo is less obvious to see.

Just add a few drops of food colouring in the toilet cistern - if the colour begins to appear in the bowl without flushing, your cistern will need to be repaired.

Contact a licensed plumber to help you fix the problem. Don't forget to flush the toilet a couple of times to prevent the colour from staining your bowl.

Did you know?

When they installed smart meters at Mackay Regional Council, around 5% of homes had leaks varying from a few litres (dribbling toilet) to over 1,000 litres per hour. The average leak lost around 30 litres per hour. So while leaks at home may not account for a huge amount of water lost overall, it can cost individual households dearly.
